Kathmandu, February 6, NS report –
Valley Public reached the quarter-final of the senior girls category at the Eight Gyan Niketan Inter-School Basketball Championship, on Friday. Valley Public thrashed Swaptabatika 32-11 while host Gyan Niketan hammered Mahendra Bhawan 13-6 and New Shrine beat Reliance 20-14.

In the senior boys category, Golden Pick registered a 48-30 win over Universal to berth their place int he quarter-final. Dawa Lama netted 15 points for the winners.

Kathmandu, February 6, NS report –
Don Bosco, Prime and Trinity College reached the semi-final of the Weeka Talentia Inter-School Boys and Girls Basketball Championship’s boys category, on Friday. Don Bosco beat Burn Heart 49-41 while Prime won the match against National Campus 51-42 and White House College lost 51-42 against Trinity.

In the girls category, Prime hammered Xavier International 22-9.

Kathmandu, January 26, NS report –
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Monday, named a 14-member squad for the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) U-17 Elite Cup Cricket Tournament scheduled to be held in Kathmandu from Feb.4-13.

The player selection process was complete after CAN sent the X-rays of the players chosen form the closed camp to meet the ACC Age Verification Protocol.

According to CAN spokesperson Tarak Mani Dixit, CAN received the ACC report on Saturday stating that only 13 out of 18 players had passed the protocol.

Skipper Prithu Baskota leads the squad comprising of Pradeep Aire, Sagar Pun, Rochak Bahhata, Nischal Singh Chaudhary, Vivek Dali, Kriten Gurung, Bhuwan Karki, Krishna Karki, Ashwin Karna, Ayush Rana, Amandeep Singh, Prateek Singh and Aakash Singh Pariyar. “Aakash, who was not in the close camp due to a knee injury has been recalled after he announced himself fit,” said Dixit.

Aakash had been given the green signal to participate in the U-15 tournament held last year. “He still needs his doctor’s statement declaring him fit for the tournament,” revealed Dixit. “Otherwise, we will go ahead with only 13 players.” Ujjwol Thapa, Pawan Shrestha, Sahanbaz Ali, Nirmal Thapa and Nawaraj Shahi were unable to pass the ACC Age Verification Protocol.

Roy Luke Dias is the team coach while Manjur Alam Khan is his deputy.

Pokhara, January 24, NS report –
Sanu Gurung won the Seventh National Veterans Tennis Championship, held in Pokhara on Saturday. Gurung, 35, beat Chandra Shahi 6-2, 6-2 in the final to get hold of the title. Krishna Ghale emerged as the winner in the 45+ category edging Kamal Thapa 6-4, 6-1. Likewise, Prithivi Thakali and Madhukar Sumsher Rana bagged the title in 55+ and 60+ categories. In the doubles event, the pair of Sanu Gurung and Manoj Rana clinched title in 35+ category while Krishna Ghale and Subarna Dakhawa, Karma Gurung and Jhyampa, and Victory Rana and Madhukar Sumsher Rana won the 45+, 55+ and 60+ category respectively.

Kathmandu, January 20, NS report –
Two-day Second Nationwide Open Budokaido Karate Championship will start Jan. 30 at Bajrabarahi, the organizer, Chapagaun Budokaido Dojo, informed at a press meet on Tuesday. A total of 260 men will compete in the 45kg, 55kg and open Men’s category while 45 women will participate in the open weight category.

Kathmandu, January 19, NS report –
Trinity Club and Unique Group entered the quarter-final of the Seventh Women’s and Eight Men’s Trinity National Open Basketball Championship’s men’s category, on Monday.

Trinity ended the challenge of Sunsari 63-29 to reach the quarter-final from group A. Trinity lead all the quarters 11-7, 19-10, 16-6 and 17-6 respectively. Binod Maharjan of Trinity netted 10 points while Sunsari’s Hemanta Rai scored 11 points.

In the other match played at Trinity International College, group B’s Unique beat JB College 64-45. Unique took the lead in the first and second quarters with 15-8, 21-9 . Lost the third with 13-16 however pulled back in the fourth quarter 13-16. Unique’s Rajiv Shakya was the highest scorer with 23 points.

Likewise, Yuvaraj Pun’s 20 points helped group C, Kaski thrash Nawalparasi 56-21. Kaski started with 9-7 and kept the lead with 16-3, 14-4 and 20-4 in the second, third and fourth quarters respectively.

Kathmandu, January 17, NS report –
Southsiders won back to back matches at the Seventh Women’s and Eight Men’s Trinity National Open Basketball Championship with a 61-34 win over Prime Sports Club.

Southsiders lead the first, second, third and fourth quarters with 35-11, 18-6, 18-11, 10-6 respectively. Manoj Sherchan scored 15 points for the winners while Rohit Lama netted 16 points for Prime.

In the other match played on Friday, Laxman Shrestha’s 23 points helped JB College down Udhaypur 51-39. JB College lead the first two quarters with the score of 14-7 and 16-6 while Udhaypur fought back in the third quarter with 2-11 but failed to carry the lead in the fourth quarter, going down 19-15.

Times beat Kaski 68-45 at the Dashrath covered hall. Times captured the first, second and third quarters with 18-8, 15-12 and 25-5 respectively but lost the last quarter 10-20.  Wisdom Pandey netted 19 points for Times.

Kathmandu, January 16, NS report –
Trinity College had a good start at the Seventh Women’s and Eighth Men’s Trinity National Open Basketball Championship with a 76-54 win over Reunited.

Trinity dominated the game with the score of 19-13, 21-13, 14-11 and 22-17 in the first, second, third and fourth quarter. Binod Maharjan netted 14 points for Trinity while Karma Sonam of Reunited scored 20 points, on Friday.

In the other match Golden Gate thrashed Naya Bazar Warriors 104-22. Naya Bazar Warriors failed to score double digit in the first three quarters as they scored 15-2, 27-3, 25-4 in the first, second and third quarter respectively. Sushil Gurung netted 30 points for Golden Gate.

Nepal Army Club went down 55-35 against Unique at the Dashrath Stadium covered hall. Rajiv Shakya’s 24 points helped Unique out score Nepal Army Club with 18-6, 12-5, 8-9 and 17-15 in the first, second, third and fourth quarter. In the highly competitive match, Prime Sports got hold of 59-52 victory over Revolver. In the Women’s section, Miss Nepal, Sitashma Chand’s 15 points helped Rato Bangala hammer Naag Sports Club 59-35.

Chiang Mai, Thailand, December 17 –
Kuwait gave Nepal its toughest match of the ACC U-19 Tournament so far as it went down to Nepal by four wickets on Wednesday at the Ghmkhana Ground. Nepal had a good start as it won the toss, elected to field and got Kuwait out for 36 runs in 15 overs.

Come batting and Nepal had a tough time despite getting the winning runs in the 13th over with four wickets to spare. Nepal had an ordinary start with the bat as opener Maya Rawat the highest run getter of the tournament for the team got out for a duck. She was bowled by player-of-the-match Priyada Murali when the team had three runs on the board. Priyada then bowled Trishna Singh who managed to hit two runs. The batters had a tough time playing the slow balls from Kuwait.

Sabina Karki trying to lift the low ball of Siobhan Gomez got caught by Priyada at square leg. Sabina faced fourteen balls for her four runs. Sushmita Chaudhary was Priyada’s next prey as she got Sushmita trapped leg before. The Nepali eves unfamiliar with the slow –low ball they got from the opponents returned back to the pavilion in a hurry.

‘B’ Division Football

Kathmandu, September 22, NS report -
Krishna Shrestha’s lone goal got Kumari Yuva Club a 1-0 win against Tusal Youth Club at the on going Martyrs’ Memorial ‘B’ Division Football League on Monday. Krishna Shrestha socred at the 67th minute for Kumari.

Likewise the match bewteen Kathmandu Club and Koila Pani Polestar Club ended in a 1-1 draw. Bhoj Raj Chettri’s goal in the 25 minute had the Koila Pani in the front until Rabin Shrestha of Kathmandu Club socred the equalizer in the 72nd minute.
