Nepal lost to Sri Lanka

Nepal’s batting once again tumbled down as it lost its first match of the U-19 World Cup to Sri Lanka by 61 runs on Monday. Sri Lanka scored a total of 236 run after winning the toss and electing to bat first.
Nepal in replay managed 175 run in 48.5 overs. Openers began the innings steadily by scoring 61 runs for the first wicket partnership. Opener Akash Mandal was the first batsmen to return to pavilion. Mandal scored 25 runs before being caught by Perera of Pathirana’s ball. Gyanendra Malla was the second wicket to fall when the team’s score was 78 runs. Malla got seven runs of ten balls. He also hit a boundary. Opener Mashes Chhetri was going great before getting caught by Chandimal of Karunaratne’s ball. Chhetri hit five boundaries for his 39 runs. Skipper Paras Khadka scored 25 runs of 46 balls while Akash Gupta made 24 runs. Rest of the batsmen failed to score double figures except for Rahul Kumar who scored 10 runs of 20 balls. He was stumped by Chandimal of Pathirana’s ball.
Earlier SS Pathirana top scored for Sri Lanka with 62 runs in 60 balls. Amrit Bhattaria who opened the bowling gave Nepal perfect start by taking four wickets. He gave the first break through sending L D Chandimal out for a run in the third over. Rahul Kumar took two wickets while Paras Khadka, Raj Shrestha and Sagar Khadka took a wicket each.
Coach Dias said that he was happy with the bowling but disappointed with the batting. To reach its target of super eight Nepal must win remaining two matches of the tournament.
