Southsiders win two in a row

Kathmandu, January 17, NS report –
Southsiders won back to back matches at the Seventh Women’s and Eight Men’s Trinity National Open Basketball Championship with a 61-34 win over Prime Sports Club.
Southsiders lead the first, second, third and fourth quarters with 35-11, 18-6, 18-11, 10-6 respectively. Manoj Sherchan scored 15 points for the winners while Rohit Lama netted 16 points for Prime.
In the other match played on Friday, Laxman Shrestha’s 23 points helped JB College down Udhaypur 51-39. JB College lead the first two quarters with the score of 14-7 and 16-6 while Udhaypur fought back in the third quarter with 2-11 but failed to carry the lead in the fourth quarter, going down 19-15.
Times beat Kaski 68-45 at the Dashrath covered hall. Times captured the first, second and third quarters with 18-8, 15-12 and 25-5 respectively but lost the last quarter 10-20. Wisdom Pandey netted 19 points for Times.
Bijendra Maharjan’s 12 points could not prevent Jhapa’s 37-26 loss to Chitwan. Chitwan which was a point behind Jhapa with the score of 8-9 in the first quarter fought back well in the last three quarters with 10-8, 8-2 and 11-7 score lines respectively. Likewise, Nawalparasi received a walk-over from Rupandehi, which has pulled out of the championship.
In the Women’s division, Golden Gate thrashed GAA 50-35. Golden Gate took the lead in the first, second and third quarter with 16-15, 14-7, 11-4 but was held to a 9-9 draw in the fourth quarter. Maya Shyagtan netted 17 points for Golden Gate.
